Fingerpost repairs

Fingerposts are a common feature of the Dorset countryside, and their design is thought to be unique. They contribute to the local character of Dorset.  Of the approximately1,285 fingerposts thought to exist in the 1950’s, just 717 survive today.

The repair of Finger Posts in Halstock and Corscombe parishes has started.   Nigel Clarke has been instrumental in identifying those fingerposts that need repair and he will undertake the work for the Parish Council.  Given the historic nature of fingerposts work must be carried out to meet set criteria in terms of materials and style.  Please bear with us as we start to tackle such a large undertaking both in costs and man hours.
