Dogs off Leads

Dear residents
The Parish Council would like to draw your attention to the issue of dogs off leads on public highways. This has become an issue for both other dog owners and other users of the highway.
You may not be aware but it is an offense to have your dog off the lead on a public highway under the Road Traffic Act 1988. Section 27 Control of dogs on roads. “A person who causes or permits a dog to be on a designated road without the dog being held on a lead is guilty of an offense”. Further details can be found at https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/section/27
Sometimes this is beyond owners’ control if they escape but please be aware of this law. The Dorset Dog Warden has been made aware of this ongoing issue.
Please take care of your beloved pets and be considerate to other dog walkers and highway users.
