50 Households plant trees

On Sunday 6 February, many householders in Corscombe and Halstock parish gathered at the village hall car park to pick up trees to plant in their gardens, as part of a mass order of 236 trees arranged by the Parish Council.

Deborah Childs, who master-minded the scheme, said “I was delighted that so many local people responded to this offer of trees from Beaminster Area ECO Group.  We had a wide choice of 23 different species of native trees and shrubs.”

Michael Dower, from the ECO Group, said, “This is our third season of planting in Corscombe and Halstock Parish.  In the previous years, we delivered larger clusters of trees for planting by several smallholders in the parish.  It was lovely to see so many people keen to enrich their gardens with native plants.  Netherbury and Mosterton parishes are also receiving trees from us this year.”

Earlier this year, Corscombe parish council planted over 100 trees to form a new hedge at the parish playground.  Henry Lovegrove, parish council chairman, said, “These different schemes are steadily enriching the wildlife habitats in our parish, helping to reverse the terrible loss of wildlife that we have suffered in Dorset”.
